Landry & Swarr Obtain $5.5 Million Verdict in Louisiana Mesothelioma Case

Landry & Swarr, a New Orleans, Louisiana law firm focused on asbestos-related law, won a $5.5 million verdict for statutory heirs in a case against a New Orleans based shipyard in favor of a deceased mesothelioma victim.

On October 23, 2018, the attorneys at Landry & Swarr successfully won a $5.5 million jury verdict for a widow and statutory heirs in a Louisiana mesothelioma case. The case was brought on behalf of a deceased man who suffered and died from mesothelioma.

Like many Louisiana mesothelioma victims, the plaintiff worked for years at a local shipyard near New Orleans and was exposed to asbestos repeatedly as part of his work environment.

The jury awarded his widows and sons a total of $5,474,934.24, finding the shipyard liable for the damages.

“This verdict is the measure of an incredible man and family. We stood up for our clients when the shipyard refused to take responsibility for what happened. Of course, this verdict does not replace their father and husband, but it does give them much needed financial support as well as some measure of closure,” says Attorney Frank Swarr of Landry & Swarr.

Mesothelioma is an asbestos-related disease that is prevalent in the state of Louisiana.

Wrongful exposure to asbestos is common for workers in shipyards and can prove fatal to those directly exposed as well as potentially affecting their family members as well through secondary exposure.
